HIGHLAND HOT AND COLD – Private hire – TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Highland Hot and Cold Terms and Conditions set out the standards that apply when you hire our saunas and/or plunge pods.
You agree to be held responsible for ensuring that you are aware of, and follow, these terms and conditions to ensure a safe environment for all.
If the Terms and Conditions agreed to in this disclaimer are breached, Highland Hot and Cold reserve the right to terminate your hire of our equipment immediately.
If you are making a hiring on behalf of a group, it is your responsibility to make all members of your party aware of these Terms and Conditions and to ensure that safe sauna and plunge pod use is practiced.
In using a sauna or plunge pod provided by Highland Hot and Cold, you voluntarily agree to the following Terms & Conditions:
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISKS
Personal Responsibility: Use the sauna and/or plunge pod at your own risk.
Using the sauna and/or plunge pod is voluntary, and if using the sauna you are required to assess the associated risks.
It is your responsibility to be mindful of the risk posed by:
- Slippery surfaces caused by water, ice, snow, mud or other substances.
- Trip hazards, guy lines, stones, roots, chairs, or any other obstacles that cause you to lose your balance and fall.
- Exposure to cold water and outside temperatures and associated wind chill.
- Exposure to hot temperatures.
- Exposure to hot equipment, including seating and the sauna stove, rocks, and flue. Increased internal body temperature.
- Collisions or contact with other persons and objects inside or outside of the Sauna.
- Exposure to airborne illnesses or transmittable diseases.
- Extreme weather (wind, storms, heat, waves, or otherwise)
COLD WATER IMMERSION
Highland Hot & Cold does not recommend swimming in open bodies of water due to the varying risks associated with currents, tides and general sea state/water conditions. It must be acknowledged that any user of the sauna entering
a nearby body of water does so entirely at their own risk and Highland Hot and Cold cannot be held liable for any issue/s arising for anyone doing so.
REPRESENTATION OF FITNESS
You should be physically and mentally fit to participate in the sauna and/or plunge pod.
If you have any medical condition that interferes with your ability to sweat, such as anhidrosis, unstable angina pectoris, recent myocardial infarction or severe aortic stenosis, you should not use the Sauna.
If you are pregnant, suffer from epilepsy or diabetes, have high or low blood pressure or any heart or circulatory issues, are prone to dizziness or fainting, or if you are taking prescription medication that affects your
mental or physical state, please contact your GP for advice before using the sauna and/or plunge pod.
If you have any concerns about how sauna and/or plunge pod use may affect your health, it is recommended you discuss with, and obtain permission from your GP before using the sauna and/or plunge pod.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- For hygiene reasons please shower before entering the sauna and/or plunge pod.
- Enter and exit the sauna and/or plunge pod safely.
- Keep access points clear for safe and quick exits.
- Do not use glass drinking vessels in or around the sauna and/or plunge pod; Highland Hot and Cold will not be liable for any injuries caused by glass breakages.
- Remove any jewellery before using the sauna and/or plunge pod.
NO ALCOHOL AND DRUGS
The consumption of alcohol, drugs, or other substances that may impair your judgment is prohibited prior to, or during, sauna and/or plunge pod use. These can interfere with your body’s ability to regulate temperature and cause
injury and are therefore not permitted.
NO SMOKING
No smoking or e-cigarettes use, in or around the sauna and/or plunge pod.
NO NUDITY
You must always wear appropriate swimwear for the sauna and/or plunge pod.
CHILDREN AND THE SAUNA
No children under the age of 16 in the the sauna and/or plunge pod.
PERSONAL PROPERTY
Highland Hot & Cold is not responsible for any damage to, or loss of, personal property before, during, or after the sauna and/or plunge pod use.
Private Hire Unmanned – Sauna Tent
Highland Hot and Cold will set up and take down the tent.
Requirements for use – set up area needs to comfortably hold the following:
4 person tent – 7’x7’x6’10”
8 person tent – 12’x12’x6’6”
Please read through the following instructions before sauna use.
- Do not leave the sauna unattended once the wood-burning stove has been fired.
- This sauna involves a metal stove with sharp edges, high temperatures, and the creation and maintenance of a live fire, please be aware and act accordingly. Enter, exit and walk in the tent with caution.
- Please use the fire gloves provided for opening/closing the door and placing the wood in the stove. Do not touch the stove or flue with bare skin.
- Do not touch the stove or sauna rocks at any time once fire is lit. Use only our specialised sauna rocks in the rockhopper, non volcanic rocks are likely to shatter.
- If pouring water on the rocks, apply gradually and in small amounts as excessive amounts of water can damage the stove.
- Only use appropriate, clean wood when firing the stove and do not overfill. Highland Hot and Cold will provide a wood starter pack. If adding further wood burn only seasoned, kiln dried wood with a moisture rating of less than 20% that is a correct size for the fire box. Do not fire with any other materials that can result in sparks and ignite the surroundings.
- Do not use plastic furniture or bring otherwise flammable items into the sauna tent or near the stove. Use the wooden stools provided.
- For safety reasons, there is a weight limit of no more than 110kg on the seats.
- Do not take glass drinking vessels into the sauna.
- Do not lean against the tent, or let any object lean against the tent, at any time.
- Stick to moderate temperatures of around 70°C and attain the best health effects from the sauna.
- Do not leave disabled people without supervision in the sauna.
- Sauna is strictly forbidden for children under 16.
- No animals in the Sauna.
- Do not hang clothes to dry in the Sauna, as this may cause a risk of fire.
- Do NOT touch the stove at any point for at least an hour after it has gone out and leave the ash for Highland Hot and Cold to remove.
- If ash needs emptied during the time of the hire, use gloves for handling and place the ash into the carrier box provided for Highland Hot and Cold to remove the ash later.
SESSION DURATION
How long you stay in the sauna and how you cool down is entirely up to you, but we encourage a mindful and gentle approach, seeing no need to excessively ‘push’ oneself either physiologically or psychologically. If feeling dizzy or unwell, come out of the sauna immediately.
Listen to your body and take time out with the sauna to cool down.
Stay hydrated.

Private Hire Unmanned – Cold Plunge Pod (bath/barrel)
Highland Hot and Cold will set up and take down the cold plunge pod.
Requirements for use are a flat surface to situate the pod (dimensions below), an outside tap with a hose that will reach to fill the pod, ice to lower temperature (if needed), and a nearby drain or soak away area for emptying water from pod. The pod must be empty before the agreed time of collection.
Bath 2 people max: 160 (L) x 85 (W) x 65 (H) cm. 480 litre capacity.
Barrel 1 person max: 100 (D) x 90 (H) cm. 520 litre capacity.
Please read through the following instructions before use.
- Do not leave the plunge pod unattended without a lid once water has been added.
- Do not take glass drinking vessels into the plunge pod.
- Do not lean against the plunge pod, or let any object lean against the plunge pod, at any time.
- No children under 16 in the plunge pod.
- No animals in the plunge pod
HOW LONG SHOULD YOU STAY IN COLD WATER?
Cold water therapy works best with the right combination of time and temperature. For example, if you are in water with a temperature of 10°C, it is recommended you stay in for no more than 10mins. It is recommended that you only submerge to shoulder level.
Temperature to Time examples:
1°C = 1 minute submersion
2°C = 2 minutes submersion
3°C = 3 minutes submersion
5°C = 5 minutes submersion
10°C = 10 minutes submersion
15°C = 15 minutes submersion
How long you stay in the water and how you warm up is entirely up to you, but we encourage a mindful and gentle approach, seeing no need to excessively ‘push’ oneself either physiologically or psychologically. If you feel dizzy or unwell, or if you start to shiver or feel warm, come out of the water immediately.
Listen to your body and take time out to warm up.

Disclaimer: It is not possible to warn the user about every possible danger related to use of the sauna tent and/or plunge pod for cold water therapy. The user must always use their own common sense and good judgement when using the equipment. Please do not use the sauna tent and/or plunge pod whilst alone.
WAIVER
By hiring and using Highland Hot & Cold saunas and/or plunge pods, you –
- Fully acknowledge and accept the terms and conditions set out above and will act accordingly to always keep yourself and others safe whilst using the sauna and/or plunge pod.
- Acknowledge and accept that sauna and/or plunge pod use is voluntary and comes with inherent risks.
- Waive any rights to hold Highland Hot and Cold liable for any harm, injury, or damages that may occur while using Highland Hot and Cold saunas, plunges pods, or services.
